MORDEN, MB – MP Candice Hoeppner met with Portage—Lisgar Chambers of Commerce on Monday to discuss the Canadian economy and challenges for the business community.
“I enjoyed this opportunity to sit down with Chamber of Commerce Presidents, Directors and Managers to talk about where we’ve been and where we’re going – to hear what local business leaders believe is the right path moving forward for a speedy economic recovery,” said MP Hoeppner.
“As a result of consultations like this taking place across the country, our government is re-examining our agenda, setting new priorities and making plans to put Canadians back to work and to help our country emerge from the global recession stronger than ever,” Hoeppner continued.
Hoeppner invited all the Chambers of Commerce in her riding to participate in the forum, requesting that they consult with their members and report what challenges the business community has faced over the past months, and what they believe is the best way to reduce the deficit.
“I heard a clear message that the economy is still the top priority – that while we are starting to see signs of a revival in Canada’s economy, the recovery is still fragile,” said Hoeppner. “That’s why our government will see the recovery through by continuing to implement Canada’s Economic Action Plan, making targeted investments in our communities, and helping those who need it most.”
Monday’s Chamber of Commerce consultation was part of Hoeppner’s ongoing efforts to meet with families, homeowners, workers, business owners, industry and community leaders, to hear how the economic downturn has affected them and how Canada should go forward.
The Member of Parliament said the Conservative Government is listening carefully to hear what citizens have to say about jobs and the economy.
“I take my constituents’ views to caucus for discussion, as do my colleagues, and through this process we are setting priorities about the next steps Canada needs to take to protect and grow our economy,” Hoeppner concluded. |
